My name is Jim Minge, and I publish The Dispatch each week for your entertainment planning pleasure. I hope this website and the weekly email newsletter that I send out give you the inside look to discovering new and interesting things to do in our hyper-creative city. I have a massive amount of respect for the artists and musicians in Omaha who work so relentlessly on their craft, and I am honored to highlight their efforts here so that hopefully a broader audience can see the amazing art they create.
A little bit about me
I began my career in journalism in 1993 with the Omaha World-Herald. After spending seven years there as an entertainment columnist, I took over the reins at the Reader, an Omaha-based alternative newsweekly. After a couple of years there, I joined a start-up called the City Weekly, a newspaper that focused mostly on arts and entertainment. I was editor-in-chief there for six years before moving on to yet another start-up, Shout! Weekly, an Omaha newsweekly that focused solely on arts and entertainment.
In September 2012, with 19 years of experience as a writer and editor covering Omaha arts and entertainment, I decided it was about time for me to fly solo. I wanted to give publishing my own gig a try. And so, The Dispatch was born.
Each week, I send out The Dispatch e-publication that highlights some of the week’s most appealing events in the Omaha-Council Bluffs and Lincoln areas. Today, that email goes out to 49,000 subscribers (49,868 as of September 2019, to be exact).
The Dispatch highlights a variety of cool happenings – from concerts, plays, local comedy, dance parties and film events to weekend festivals, sporting events, poetry readings, new museum exhibits, zoo activities and everything in between. Bottom line: If it’s something that’s entertaining then it will be included in The Dispatch.
So that’s me. That’s The Dispatch. I hope you keep coming back to visit, and if you haven’t already, please sign up for our weekly email. And tell a friend :–)
